Customer Review: Nice picture but swallows DVD discs.
Last year I purchased the non-DVD equipped model for my garage (19AV500U) and have been overall very pleased with the product. When asked by my girlfriend for a recommendation on a 19″ DVD-equipped TV, I suggested the Toshiba 19LV505.

She purchased the unit from Costco and had it for about 4 months when after viewing a DVD movie, was unable to eject the disc. Both the remote and eject button remained ineffective, even after numerous power cycles. Unaware of the trapped DVD, her daughter inserted a second DVD which subsequently joined its partner in the drive and also refused to eject.

A Google search revealed the following recommendation on the Toshiba Support site.

“Q. My disk will not eject, what do I do?
Models: MD14H63, MD20H63, MD24H63, 15DLV77, 19HLV87, 19LV505, 19LV506, 23HLV87, 26LV47, 26LV67, 32LV67

1. My disk will not eject, what do I do?
a. Turn off the TV and unplug it from the power for 3 minutes
b. Plug the TV back in and power it on.
c. If problems persist please contact our Customer Solutions Department at 1-800-631-3811. We are open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 7 pm CST.”

She unplugged the unit for several hours and was still unable to eject either disc after powering it back up. She contacted Toshiba at the number above. The technician was very professional and to his credit, did his best to assist although was unable to resolve the problem. He confirmed that it was still under warranty – but she would need to cover postage to the Massachusetts Repairs Depot. Additionally, Toshiba claimed she may be billed for the repair should they decide that the problem is an end user error. One might expect that when they discover two discs in the drive, Toshiba would likely charge for the repair. At this point, a new external DVD player from Target (perhaps Samsung) might be a far more economical and reliable solution than having Toshiba repair the internal unit. As a last resort she contacted Costco Technical Support and explained her scenario. The Costco rep agreed that no (single disc) consumer device should be engineered to accept two discs – and proceeded to recommend a technique that apparently remedies many electronic device issues. He instructed her to unplug the TV/DVD from the wall, and hold the power button down for 2 minutes. Then, release the power button, plug the TV back in and power up. Much to her surprise, the DVD player happily ejected one disc. She repeated this sequence, and the second disc ejected.

Recommendation: If you’re looking for a 19″ TV with integrated DVD, look elsewhere or… if you are not opposed to an external DVD player, buy the non-DVD model Toshiba for about $50 less and invest in a decent player. Although Toshiba acknowledges the problem, it appears they are not taking the issue very seriously (see previous postings referencing eject issues).

Customer Review: Awesome TV…
We just received this tv and absolutely love it! The picture quality is excellent, as well as the sound quality. I purchased this tv for my daughter’s bedroom… the white color and compact size make it a perfect fit for her room. I am so glad I went with Toshiba and read the reviews of the other brands ~ it paid off!
